Workshops

1998. Assisted in conducting workshops on Applications of the Internet for Education at Woodridge Middle School.

Using the Internet for Education -- Intermediate Users. Kent State University, College of Continuing Studies. Two credit-hour workshop.

Experience

Ameritech Classroom, Moulton Hall. 1998 - Fall Semester: Graduate Assistant. 1999 – Spring Semester: Graduate Assistant and Intern.

Successfully provided all technology support including:

  • Trained a new set of teachers and students every four to six weeks in the use of hardware and software applications and provided teachers with alternate technologies and strategies for traditional teaching methods. Installed and maintained software required by the teachers. Initiated a backup system to preserve student work.

  • Created a template for teachers to use for $4,000 grant applications, which were successfully funded.

  • Maintained and added computers to the Windows network of 28 computers. Completed all troubleshooting of hardware and software problems and quickly restored computers after crashes so that every computer was in optimum working order every day.

  • Maintained cutting edge audiovisual, digital recording, and VTel equipment, noted any malfunctions to be reported to outside contractors, and performed troubleshooting as directed.

1993 – present: Homeschooled four children. Organized and taught a Math Counts team. Coordinated Science-by-Mail programs in conjunction with the McKinley Museum. Supervised advanced learning opportunities with Stanford University’s Education Program for Gifted Youth. Researched and implemented computer technology for the homeschool environment.

Other jobs: Worked as a nurse in South Africa, Swaziland, and Botswana. Taught English as a second language in Germany and to the Hmong in Minnesota. In Greece assisted in running a Youth Hostel and worked as a German/Greek translator. Directed volunteers at a Kibbutz in Israel.

Hardware and software used in my courses and internship  include the following:

  • PCs with the following operating systems: DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, and Macintosh.

  • Web Authoring: Front Page, Ultra Dev, Dreamweaver, ColdFusion, Netscape, and AOLPress.

  • Digital Image Capture and Manipulation: PhotoShop and  PhotoPaint.

  • Desktop Publishing: PageMaker, Publisher, and ClarisWorks.

  • Research: Ethnograph.

  • Multimedia Authoring: Hyperstudio, Director, and MicroWorlds.

  • Communications: asynchronous and synchronous; email, newsgroups, WebBoard, ftp, WWW, Palace, and chat.

  • Spreadsheets: Excel.

  • Word Processing: Word, Works, and ClarisWorks.

  • Presentation: PowerPoint.

  • Networking: All the hardware and software required to set up networks including Timbuktu Pro, Windows 95/98, and Windows NT.

  • Digital video and VTel equipment.
